What the hells going on at Fortress?
Fri, 2009-09-11 11:28
Did a quick hike up the wedge this past weekend and noticed a big frame structure under construction at the top of the main hill at Fortress mountain. I had no idea that anthing was being built up there by the alleged newfoundland millionaires club this season. Its really gross that they have been allowed to build a large building right on top of the ridge. I don't recall any public announcements regarding new development. Does anybody know what is going on and if this will be something the public can access? If not,the days of poaching powder turns at Fortress could be over or severely limited

some fortress rumours...
Some friends and I toured up there for an overnight last season, and met the good bloke working and living up there as a maintainence guy, apparently for the new owners... anyways, he gave us some of the low-down on plans for the place. I was stoked to hear it. Especially as it looks like the new owners have a lot deeper pockets than Zrinko, who tried valiantly to do it on the cheap but with the obvious results...
Ya anyway, I understand they were talking of moving the triple further down the valley, so the base of it can catch you further down and thus opening all the bandit chute terrain above, which is awesome, and a no-brainer... then the main daylodge would get moved further up the valley, just a little ways to the higher plateau where all the maintainence buildings used to be, which opens more area between for the beginner/magic carpet stuff, and presumably parking lot... I didn't hear what the plan for the backside/farside is...What heard is that they were "in no rush" to start anything though, and I thought the economy-tankage would have had them waiting -- so definitely surprising to them staring with a new building on the top of the ridge. (!)
In any case, I think some development of fortress is all good! Why not? It's great news for the local ski scene. Revive the bow valley's awesomest little ski hill. Offer an alternative to the mega-hill, with mega-prices, mega-crowds and the mega-hype. Summer time the bears can have the place to themselves... that's how I'd feel... but sh*t I just moved to Vancouver. ;)

Don't play dumb with us
Don't play dumb with us Egon. Everyone in the Bow Valley knows that you were Leo DiCap's body double for outdoor semi-nude scenes (when temp was 8 deg C or less).

They did a pretty good job of making plywood look like concrete :) I am more interested in why there is snow fencing down Canadian? Is is that left over from Zrinko, looks to new.

Filming begins Nov.
Filming begins Nov. 16!
$2,000,000 millions dollar budget!!!
The movie production security company is currently recruiting personnel. Anyone with touring gear (you know, skins and stuff) is getting on.
They give you a map of a zone to patrol and an anti-paparazzi taser. It's minimum wage but you get to keep the taser.
Their office is beside the Dairy Queen in Canmore.
ps. If you see a guy in a Highwood Pass Advisory Society uniform, don't zap him. He probably just had a few too many AGD and got lost.

I'm sure Gavin Young is
I'm sure Gavin Young is taking some heat from Warner Brothers right now. Pretty sure they caught him on the time lapse cameras that are setup throughout Fortress. Good luck trying to sneak in next time!
