Fri, 2009-06-05 17:35
Sunshine is saying they get more snow than Fernie in their latest ads...last time i checked the official snow survey sites it shows Fernie at 883 cm average and 811cm for Sunshine...but if you look at last 5 years Fernie leads the way with a much higher average. In fact in 2007 over 1118cm or 37 feet of Snow!

depends how you look at it...
Where did you get these numbers? Sunshine's is around 915 cm (all time annual average) Fernie's is around 899 cm (all time annual average) Sources? (environment canada weather stations, world meteorological association) You must remember, that Sunshine's season is over 2 months longer than Fernies, so even though it may appear Sunshine gets more snow, Fernie average FAR MORE snow PER DAY. Other things to consider are recent snowfall... in the past 5 years Sunshine is around 800cm average, and Fernie is around 1000cm average. Plus, snow diferences... Fernie's having a much higher water content and Sunshine's being much drier. Also the amount of skiers per day on hill, combined with the water content % of the snow, will drastically effect how much pow is laying around. So to summarize... - all time Sunshine averages more snow PER YEAR than Fernie - in recent years, Fernie average more snow PER YEAR than Sunshine - Fernie average more snow PER DAY than Sunshine, almost any year. |
