It's stealing. The question is whether you find stealing unethical.

Yeah patrol seems to be cool with it if you do not plan on using the lifts. If you are, then you have to be a bit more stealthy.

Skinning through Sunshine
I skinned up to Sunshine at least once each season for the last 12. Never had a an issue. Usually headed to Quartz ridge, but sometimee over to twin cairns. If your just going up to ski the resort it's probably just stealing, but if your passing through, than, who cares?

If you're not using the ski lifts, then the ski hill has no concern... you obviously have the right to tour whereever you want to in the national parks... their ownership is strictly the lifts (that's why its a "lift pass" and not a "ski pass") If you are using the lifts, then I'd say, do beware! I have known people who were charged - like, criminally - for riding lifts without passes. If you're spotted skinning, they can't do anything, but they'll look out for you and wait until you get on the lift. When you get to the top there's someone waiting, and they escort you off -- as I said, in some cases, they actually bring in the RCMP. Patrol takes it pretty seriously - as they tend to do at most hills. ...So it's rather dodgy... Stealing? Well, technically, it obviously is. Some particularly bankrupt dirtbags (like me 10 years ago) might have argued that its really a 'victimless crime',... but, you know, I've been a straight-laced law-abiding citizen myself for quite some time now - so what do I know about such things... though its 'unethical' enough for most people to avoid posting threads about it!

Let your conscience be your guide, the trick is to synchronize with management’s conscience.

I don't think that's a question that really needs to be answered and posted to the world.... |
