Peter Lougheed / Kananaskis and area
Wed, 2011-11-30 01:41
Hey Good People, Hoping to get some discussion started on touring these wonderful East slopes. All methods welcome, AT/Tele, Snowshoes/Splitboards. I am fairly new to the area but explored some excellent terrain last season, lastly Black Prince. If you're like me, finding helpful info about where to tour, directions, conditions etc. has been difficult. Also, I am new to ski touring having retired the snowshoes. So my hope is that information can be shared at a beginner level. So lets get to it! Big storm forecast for overnight so i'm going to hit the lifts tomorrow instead. With the terrible base layer on the snowpack and high or considerable avy risk it's best to leave things alone until conditions improve. It would be great to provide info, and list some helpful sites to get things started: Alberta Parks (many links to weather, cameras and avy reports): http://www.tpr.alberta.ca/parks/kananaskis/trailreport.aspx Another forum topic in it's infancy from Backcountry Skiing Canada Forum: http://backcountryskiingcanada.com/forums/?page_id=3/rocky-mountains/kananaskis-early-season-info/ Peace!

Possible Weekend Slopes Assault
Hey Snowmad, Are you around Canmore? If so, wanna grab a drink to discuss possible ski slope assaults in the area? Drop me a line if you are interested. I am looking to get out in the K-country or Banff area this weekend. Cheers
