Just a warning to anyone thinking of heading to Parkers or Bow Summit. Parks Canada usually has both sites closed early season until there is at least 100cm of snow. I assume they weren't ready for the early snow we had, so there was no one out there to turn you back. But don't count on it still being that way.

Dude, don't you yhink 100 cm is pushing it? Parkers is lucky to have 100 cms in March!! I thought they just wanted full coverage so as not to damage the foliage.?

I went for a drive to Bow Summit today (OCTOBER 5) to see what's up, it's still looking really bony up there, maybe only 5-10cms on the ground, I'm guessing 25cm in the alpine. Just thought I'd let you guys know so you don't waste your time or destroy your gear or hurt hurt yourself. 50cm is the minimum Parks Canada wants people to wait for before you can ski Bow Summit or Parkers due to the sensitive vegetation. A couple of more snowfalls and I think it will be great. Forecast isn't looking to promising though, but the air sure is cold. Fingers crossed.

I've heard highwood is a no go as of last weekend but Rae glacier should offer some decent turns. This is second hand info though so take your chances. EDIT: by "highwood" I'm referring to the terrain that is not glaciated. |
