The end of an Era. Face Lift closes at Fernie Alpine Resort

Rumours started rolling around earlier this year that RCR was going to cease operating the "Face Lift."  Those rumours have been proven true with a recent blog post on RCR's Blog.

The Face Lift was a handle tow that brought you up a few hundred extra meters closer to the bottom of the Lizard Headwall at Fernie Alpine Resort, allowing you to increase your vertical, and more importantly give you the extra vert to effortlessly traverse across the tops of the bowls to the goods that lay on the edges.

A sad end to an era of lift assisted extra vertical in Lizard and Cedar Bowls of the Fernie Snow Valley.

The view from the top of Fernie's Face Lift.  A view you will have to hike to from now on.

Go Griz!

so sad

That is a bummer... I've got a lots of fond memories from barely being able to hang on to that meathook. It sure was painful as a little kid, but it was still better than hiking.

Sad, but at the same time good.

In Whistler when they added a chair it meant more people were able to access a long-hiked aspect of Whistler Mountain: Flute Bowl.

... losing the facelift equals more snow for people who are willing to work for their turns. Obesity is a rampant problem in North America.  Just sayin.

Where are we going... and why am I in this handbasket???
