What a joke. Ok, a global event held in canada requires mascots, mmmmm....a bear, a moose, a beaver. How hard was that? Instead we get some f'in japanamation characters? So lame. Your thoughts?

Yeah i think they look pretty stupid. The Bear is allright I suppose. They would be fun mascots to push around and abuse...and isnt that what your really looking for in a mascot?

Then again does anyone here really give a shit about the olympics? Just seems like a corporate money maker to me. The hockey's good though.

as long as they keep all the coastal indigenous people happy instead of crying about adopting inukshuks as the logo it will be al good

what do the Olympics need logos and mascots?
seriously the original intent about the olmpics being all about the youth/athletes/sports/etc is 11th or 12th on the list of shit that seems important to organizing commitees now....

Actually, waxman, I think they were right to complain about the inukshuk being chosen for the symbol. It says a lot about how we think of the aboriginal cultures, when we adopt and co-opt their cultural symbols without ANY awareness of the actual culture! The inukshuk is an inuit symbol... while the west coast has full-fledged indigenous cultures who've been on those lands for millenia, and also happen to have like a bazillion native art symbols to choose from that would actually represent their local cultures. Why overlook them? It would be like using a horse and cowboy, or the freakin' CN Tower to represent Vancouver.
What does it say about your value of your local culture when you choose a symbol from somewhere else to represent you??

But okay,... I know its not really that big a deal... :) What they really should've done for the mascots is have a giant talking pot-leaf... or maybe instead have a couple of gigantic white kids with dreadlocks and worn-out shoes, reekin' of patchouli oil and puffin' on some fat cones, sitting on the curb with a cardboard sign that says "need money for weed". ;)

you guys are like, 'woohoo' n' sh*t.

look at the Canadian flag, see the maple leaf?
a symbol that represents a whole country right?
seen any frikkin maple trees in Sakatchewan or Alberta(manitoba? i don't know?)

sorry, the olympic mascots mean dick with regards to a region ie goofy polar bears for Calgary '88 (and to all the Calgarians out there it was almost 20 years ago get over it and throw your puke colored Sun Ice volunteer jackets away, NOW, dammit)
i would give more examples but that's how little mascots mean, i can't remember anymore (Pan-am RIO a goofy cartoon sun guy but i was there)

they are a marketing ploy only to sell more t-shirts

the Olympics aren't about pet causes like First Nations they are about ATHLETES....and the sooner IOC/COA/CBC/NBC realize that the better....

hopefully before Beijing/Hong Kong or that will be a wasted airline trip...

We have maple trees in all 3, so I'd say the icon on our flag does a pretty good job...

I could care less about the mascot as well. However, your opinion means shit, a culture was disrespected and it matters to them. It would have been better to just have the olympiv rings as the symbol and then no one gets offended. Nonetheless, Wongcouvers mascot blows donkey cocks.
