TR: Arachnophobia - An interior BC short road trip

We crammed all of our bags into a small 4 door car sans winter tires and cut classes on Friday to make the drive out to Panorama. There was a bit of snow here and there all week before we arrived so we were hoping for decent conditions. After the first lap in Tayton bowl we realized most of all the storm snow had been skied out. Searching for snow, we skied into a dark and dreary forest....after a few turns we found a small cave. The opening of the cave looked oddly like a giant mouth and as we were about to enter WE WERE ATTACKED! <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /><img width="490px" src="http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s185/alberta_hoser/2-26.jpg" /> <br />BY THIS! <br /> <br />This enormous 8-legged monster went on a rampage and it's venom must have caused us to pass out. When we came to the spider was gone and we all had strangely heightened senses. Using my newly acquired "spidy sense" I attacked the snow with a renewed vigor. <br /> <br /><img width="490px" src="http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s185/alberta_hoser/2-20.jpg" /> <br />Hand drag inspired by my sudden desire to grow more limbs. <br /> <br /><img width="490px" src="http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s185/alberta_hoser/2-30.jpg" /> <br />I realized all this snow was going to make it hard to spin my web so I decided to attempt to move as much snow as possible down the hill. With great determination I might add (Notice facial expression). <br /> <br />With my enhanced sense of hearing the trees seemed to be talking to me. <br /><img width="490px" src="http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s185/alberta_hoser/2-33.jpg" /> <br />This one was telling me that the best hunting grounds were in an area commonly referred to by the trees as "devils drop" <br /> <br /><img width="490px" src="http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s185/alberta_hoser/2-34.jpg" /> <br />I could immediately see why it was so ideal. All these drops and pillows would make great anchors for my web. The soft snow will entice unsuspecting humans to fall into my trap and keep my belly full all winter. <br /> <br /><img width="490px" src="http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s185/alberta_hoser/2-31.jpg" /> <br />Spinning my web <br /> <br /><img width="490px" src="http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s185/alberta_hoser/2-32.jpg" /> <br />With the trap set, my spidy senses were pushed into the stoked level. <br /> <br /><img width="490px" src="http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s185/alberta_hoser/2-41.jpg" /> <br />Jeff crawling his way out of Tayton bowl. Still trying to get rid of that annoying snow. <br /> <br />That night more trees directed our paths. <br /><img width="490px" src="http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s185/alberta_hoser/2-45.jpg" /> <br />This one told us of the fabled Kicking Horse mountain resort. It spoke of steep alpine chutes perfect for web construction long into the night. Convinced, we headed out at first light. <br /> <br /><img width="490px" src="http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s185/alberta_hoser/2-39.jpg" /> <br />After looking up at these, I decided the largest of the ramps would be perfect for web slinging fun. <br /> <br /><img width="490px" src="http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s185/alberta_hoser/2-27.jpg" /> <br />With Jeff riding with his family, Tom and I decided to do some recon late on the first day. <br /> <br /><img width="490px" src="http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s185/alberta_hoser/2-35.jpg" /> <br />Tom lays a trail of egg sacks behind him as he descends. <br /> <br />The next day brought sore legs (all 8 of them) and a sense of focus to nailing those ramps. <br />We were whited out and searching for these turned to be challenge. Using our trail maps and superior climbing skill we eventually found what we were looking for. <br /> <br /><img width="490px" src="http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s185/alberta_hoser/2-42.jpg" /> <br />Jeff picks his line he hopes to impress a female with... <br /> <br /><img width="490px" src="http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s185/alberta_hoser/2-37.jpg" /> <br />...and weaves his web. <br /> <br /><img width="490px" src="http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s185/alberta_hoser/2-38.jpg" /> <br /> <br /> <br /><img width="490px" src="http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s185/alberta_hoser/2-43.jpg" /> <br />Tom picks a line he thinks will be perfect for burrowing traps... <br /> <br /><img width="490px" src="http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s185/alberta_hoser/2-40.jpg" /> <br />...and he goes on the prowl, always in search of prey. <br /> <br /><img width="490px" src="http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s185/alberta_hoser/2-36.jpg" /> <br />I pick out the big ramp, AK style. This will be perfect for my specialty of leaping hunting techniques. <br /> <br /><img width="490px" src="http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s185/alberta_hoser/2-28.jpg" /> <br />After leaping off the small drop onto the ramp (I couldn't find a way in from the very top, so I entered slightly below it, through a smaller entrance in the cliff band) I carefully descended and kept my ears open for any sound of prey. <br /> <br /><img width="490px" src="http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s185/alberta_hoser/2-44.jpg" /> <br />I spotted this tasty morsel on the way down and waited until the female human was in the perfect spot under me. <br /> <br /><img width="490px" src="http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s185/alberta_hoser/2-29.jpg" /> <br />I pounced and made the kill. Oddly enough, snowbladers are delicious. <br /> <br /> :D <br /> <br />P.S. Nice to meet you Nate and I hope to ride with you again soon. Thanks for showing me that chute (I would've found it anyways but still  )
