TR: White Room in the Rockies
Submited By alberta_hoser On 2007-02-27
(From last weekend. Thank you for figuring this shit out Boris.) <br /> <br />We drove out to Banff on Thursday night to attempt to avoid the crowds of the weekend by at least 1 day. It had been snowing 5-7cm a couple different days all week and we were expecting a similar snow fall for Friday. Our entire group was sick so we were a bit slow to wake up. Once we saw the snow report was above 20cm fresh overnight we all got together pretty fast. I don't think I've ever dressed so quickly. After a month of no major snowfall and generally shitty riding conditions this was a god send. <br /> <br /><img width="490px" src="http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s185/alberta_hoser/2-6.jpg" /> <br /> <br />The rockies. <br /> <br />The crowds weren't too bad and we knew Delirium and the West would be closed until Patrol did some explosives work. (defiantly nothing better than the sound of bombs in the morning) We intended to ride the South Chutes off of Goat's eye because it has some decent vertical and glades to deal with the flat lighting. When that was closed we ended up finding some decent snow else where. South Chutes seems to get blown in by snow and once it finally opened up it was a full on skate to get there first. It was deep. <br /> <br /><img width="490px" src="http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s185/alberta_hoser/2-10.jpg" /> <br />Me finding some pockets in the glades. <br /> <br /><img width="490px" src="http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s185/alberta_hoser/2-19.jpg" /> <br />Jeff getting deeper... <br /> <br /><img width="490px" src="http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s185/alberta_hoser/mikeslash.jpg" /> <br />I attempt to one-up Jeff with a big face shot. <br /> <br /><img width="490px" src="http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s185/alberta_hoser/jeffcarve2croped.jpg" /> <br />Not one to let a good competition die, Jeff retaliates. <br /> <br /><img width="490px" src="http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s185/alberta_hoser/2-14.jpg" /> <br />However, I think this is game, set, match. <br /> <br /><img width="490px" src="http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s185/alberta_hoser/tomslash.jpg" /> <br />When suddenly out of no where, Tom makes an unprecedented assault on the snow, entering a higher state of being known as the white room. <br /> <br /><img width="490px" src="http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s185/alberta_hoser/mikeslash1.jpg" /> <br />I entered the white room many times on Friday. Jeff claimed that I disappeared on this turn for at least 3 seconds after this shot was taken. <br />The snow, surrounded by it, sinking in it, eating it, feeling it, being one with it. It's the white room and until you've experianced it you don't really know what this sport is about. <br /> <br /><img width="490px" src="http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s185/alberta_hoser/2-25.jpg" /> <br />Grey bird. <br /> <br /><img width="490px" src="http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s185/alberta_hoser/jeffcarve1.jpg" /> <br />Jeff. <br /> <br /><img width="490px" src="http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s185/alberta_hoser/2-15.jpg" /> <br />Me, also staring, also staring rockies blower. <br /> <br /><img width="490px" src="http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s185/alberta_hoser/2-13.jpg" /> <br />Tom getting some. <br /> <br /><img width="490px" src="http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s185/alberta_hoser/2-23.jpg" /> <br />Jeff, "Time to go" <br /> <br />When patrol opened up Wild West I had high expectations. It didn't disappoint. Despite having to side step down some rocks above exposure into Peyto's we were the first group in there besides patrol. I have never seen something so beautiful. <br /> <br /><img width="490px" src="http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s185/alberta_hoser/2-16.jpg" /> <br />This was my favorite run down Peyto's ever. Who wants to guess why? <br /> <br /><img width="490px" src="http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s185/alberta_hoser/2-21.jpg" /> <br />Jeff heading out towards the apron. The snow wasn't as deep lower down but it was amazingly light and untracked. No complaints. <br /> <br /><img width="490px" src="http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s185/alberta_hoser/2.jpg" /> <br />Tom follows. <br /> <br /><img width="490px" src="http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s185/alberta_hoser/2-1.jpg" /> <br />Even the light was cooperating at this point. Jeff riding an undisclosed runout. <br /> <br /><img width="490px" src="http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s185/alberta_hoser/2-2.jpg" /> <br />Tom getting deep. <br /> <br /><img width="490px" src="http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s185/alberta_hoser/2-17.jpg" /> <br />I like blower. <br /> <br /><img width="490px" src="http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s185/alberta_hoser/mikecarve.jpg" /> <br />I like it a lot. <br /> <br /><img width="490px" src="http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s185/alberta_hoser/2-3.jpg" /> <br />Jeff agrees. <br /> <br />Well, we decided to do that again. A few times. We headed over to ________ to get some hidden fresh tracks. <br /> <br /><img width="490px" src="http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s185/alberta_hoser/2-4.jpg" /> <br />Jeff. What a slut. <br /> <br /><img width="490px" src="http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s185/alberta_hoser/2-22.jpg" /> <br />Tom's a whore as well. <br /> <br /><img width="490px" src="http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s185/alberta_hoser/2-24.jpg" /> <br />Pillows. <br /> <br /><img width="490px" src="http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s185/alberta_hoser/2-11.jpg" /> <br />I visit the white room again in the some old growth. <br /> <br />We skied a few more laps and then headed back to Banff. Easily one of the best days of the season. <br /> <br />Saturday on the other hand was kind of interesting. We had a late start again but the crowds were absolutely ridiculous. Parked about 2km back from the parking lot and took us a long time to actually get riding with all the lines. We skied the dive and west all day long. Heavy winds did a number to the snow in some areas. <br /> <br /><img width="490px" src="http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s185/alberta_hoser/mikeaspect.jpg" /> <br />Occasionally Jeff's a pretty good photog - Me riding underneath the dive. <br /> <br /><img width="490px" src="http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s185/alberta_hoser/2-12.jpg" /> <br />I scoped this cliff out and knew I only had 2 objectives. Don't land in the only bomb hole in the landing and don't hit a tree. I sniped the bomb hole. <br /> <br />Fun drop anyways. <br /> <br />Went back to _______ to find more untracked pow. <br /><img width="490px" src="http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s185/alberta_hoser/2-5.jpg" /> <br />Tom finds some nice lines. <br /> <br /><img width="490px" src="http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s185/alberta_hoser/2-9.jpg" /> <br />He love tapped a tree on this one though <br /> <br /><img width="490px" src="http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s185/alberta_hoser/2-7.jpg" /> <br />Jeff prefers open untracked blower. <br /> <br /><img width="490px" src="http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s185/alberta_hoser/2-8.jpg" /> <br />Tom. <br /> <br /><img width="490px" src="http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s185/alberta_hoser/2-18.jpg" /> <br />Engler's run out. Don't ski it though, it ends in a 100 foot cliff that we all had to huck. <br /> <br /> <br />An unforgettable weekend. My face felt very clean coming home
