Don’t Call It A Comeback.

My goal for this season was to ski tour a ton in the Rockies. What a crappy year it’s been for that so far. Avalanche conditions have not been great and there is only so much flat gay pow I can take. Luckily, the last 2 weeks have seen an improvement.

Even if avalanche conditions haven’t stabilized that much, we’ve found areas where the snowpack is at least supportive enough let you ski steeper lines and take airs. So, we’ve been skiing some great pillow lines below treeline and having a lot of fun.

Here’s a pic of Harley Hegnauer on one of the pillow areas we’ve been ripping this week:

It actually feels like my season has just finally started, even though I’ve been skiing since November. As far as photos and film go, it has not been a very productive season so far. It looks like March could change all that, though. My schedule looks pretty busy for the next couple weeks, which should finally give me something to blog about.

Most of the touring I’ve done this year so far has been in the trees where it’s a bit safer. The Rockies aren’t really known for their tree skiing, but we’ve been exploring a few burnt tree areas from the 2003 fires that have been fun.
