I knew it was opening day for many reasons but the moment that gave it away was when I got to the bottom of the chair after my second run and found 3 or four guys sitting in the snow with their boots off.

Unless you are one of those freaks who tests all their gear meticulously in the weeks leading up to the first day out, part of the experience of opening day is dealing with sore feet and rusty or storage waxed edges.

I'll admit that after spending too many months in flip flops I struggled to get my boots buckled for the first few days in November but I it didn't even occur to me to take them off and lie tits up in the snow. Funny shit!
