Waist deep

Snow, Snow, snow and more snow!!! The last 10 days have been as good as Fernie could be. 110 cm of fresh in about a week, great weather and visibility (no joke, good viz in Fernie!), great people, and one of the biggest ski bums party I've ever seen : The Mogul Smoker.
As usually, I had a rough time leaving Fernie a few days ago. This journey in the Snow Valley where I found some really great skiing and tons of freshies was as good as Fernie can be. After a slow season start, the conditions are now awesome even with only 1.50m of snowpack. In a little bit more than a week, 110 cm of fresh snow covered the early season ice layer and the snow stability is getting better, slowly but surely. Except for few days of sled skiing in Powder Comboys area and around Snow Valley, I skied most of the time inbound. The hill was just as good as the backcountry could be.
This trip in Fernie started with one of the biggest ski bums party; The Mogul Smoker. With over 10 DJ's, punk bands, outside bars and beer gardens, poutine shack, and a bonfire big enough to heat up locals and visitors enthusiasm. In fact, everything was there to officially start the powder hunters season.
I spent the last 2 days in Salmo Creston Pass. One word to resume this cabin trip : DEEEEEPPPPPP! Waist deep fluffy snow pretty much everywhere. Even the snow stability was better than expected in spite of the heavy snowfall of the last few days.
After a sketchy drive pulling the sleds trailer along the icy highway 3 and 6 through Ymir, BC, we drove up to Whitewater ski area to see how it looks like over there by this time.
I'm now sitting in my hotel room in Nelson trying to get some sleep before another waist deep ski trip...hard life!
