A Relaxing Week

What does a responsible mom of an 8 and 9 year old do the first week of school? Yip, that is right, she pulls them out of school and goes on summer vacation! <br />It has been a rough summer for my family; my husbands’ dad (my kids’ grandfather) was lost to cancer. I needed to get in a camping trip before life got too crazy, so off to Victoria and Hornby Island we went. <br />My dad lives on Vancouver Island and I usually visit him every year, and then I added Hornby Island on the recommendation of Hornby Island’s bike shop owner, whom I had meet at the World Mountain Bike Conference in Whistler earlier this summer. <br />Victoria was as lovely as ever, but our stay on Hornby is what made this trip! Hornby a small, quaint island with only about 900 permanent residences. The middle of the island is loaded with mountain bike trails, which were fast, flowy and fun. Its’ landscape is diverse; we hit three beaches and each one had its personality; one with sand building sand, one covered with rocks begging to be turned over to reveal what life its hiding, and another which was a big rock slab with tide pools teeming with life, starfish, crabs, and things I have never seen (being a mountain girl and all!). My kids were entertained the whole time and I, well, I actually had time to read a book! It was perfect. Thanks Jeremy for inviting me out. <br />Now, BRING ON THE SNOW!!
