Egon almost makes his first turns of the season...but something gets in his way.
I managed a common feat on Sunday night. I managed to convince myself, despite every indication to the contrary, that Monday would be an epic powder day in Whistler. I was far from the only one who ignored their inner-meteorologist, but it was going to be my first day out this season.
I've been out in Whistler a couple weeks right now. The thing I'm finding hard is getting a place to stay. A friend has been good enough to let me stay in his garage, and that's getting me by, but I don't want to overstay my welcome. Work is going well. The only negative is that I haven't yet purchased my pass.
I'm now faced with likely a $1000/mo room, and first/last/and-security to get in. For this reason I'm holding on to my pass money until I'm into a place. Work will pay for the pass at the end of the year, but that doesn't help much right now.
But I was ready to buy a ticket for Monday. I knew that despite the big snow we were getting it was all supposed to go to rain. I knew that there were probably high winds in the Alpine. I knew that I was in Whistler. Despite all of these bits of information, I got up on Monday morning intending to ski.
...long story short: the rain came, the wind blew, and Whistler lived up to some of the worst of it's reputation. On the plus side, I got to watch the worst winter drivers in Canada battle it out in the intersection while I ate a tasty breakfast as the grauple turned to rain...thinking of the first-day-that-will-be.

I am with you Egon. I was planning to head up to the Whis for Monday, but after checking the live temps at 6am I scratched that plan. But hey! I bet its sweet now. I'll be up on the weekend. We should hook up sometime/somehow. Drop me an email or give me a shout. Scrimjob
