Ween- Might not be pow, but a good show none-the-less

Ween rocked out in Calgary on Friday night and it was sick. So what if I didnt ski- plenty of days to come this winter.
If early season is all about rocks, then I over-dosed on Friday night. I dont know about your tick list, but mine definitely includes seeing Ween live and I put a big mark through that entry on my list on Friday night.
They played at Flames Central in Calgary, which was actually a sweet venue. Tables and beers, no shitty opening band- Ween just rolled out once everybody was in and rocked out for 3 hours. There was an eclectic mix of punks, old people who belong downtown in cubicles, dirtbag climbers and skiers, young, flashy frat boys and everyone else in between lined up for 2 blocks outside the venue waiting to get in.
The perfect pub band, Ween killed it all night. After so many years on the road, they are definately built to last and spared all the onstage theatrics and just turned out one tune after another. Sure they are a little fat these days, and 3 of them are sporting balding patches on their heads, but they have the musical muscle to flex out good music and and throw it back in your face with hilarious, satirical lyrics and run the guantlet from Jazzy Great Gatsby-esk numbers to hard rock, to Piss Up a Rope country ballards.
The encore was intense with the keyboard player putting in his 2 cents and then drummer unleashing for like 30mins. The rest of the band kicked back and smoked a butt before the bassist threw down and they finally managed to shut it down.
One of the best shows I have seen and I dont know many people that would disagree.
Hope you didnt hit too many rocks skiing on Saturday.
