You dont belive it- Here's the Proof- 3/4 Couloir
Submited By AnthonyBonello On 2007-10-18
It was sick, and matter of factly, heres the proof. Not so much that we skied it, but that it was sick. Hahaha. Where'd you ski last weekend...
It all began in typical style, super late, waiting for people, chowing down at Laggins. Joe and I had just driven direct from A Bar Named Sue after Freshtival finished too late to warrant sleeping. Nothing new there. We did finally rally the uber--posse of 7 (sin Puskas, he went fishing cause he was scared. Yeah your reading this Colin) and headed for Morraine Lake.
In yet again typical style, the gate was locked. No entry, cerrado. Go home. We stood around in the dark cussing and trying to roll boulders away and hold the steel boom gate high enough to drive under, but to no avail.
Then things seemingly took a turn of the worse. Some maintainence guys showed up and told us we werent allowed up there blah blah blah. One of them looked familiar and some strategic probing brought it all back. I had ridden the chair lift with Marc-Luc at Whitewater before. Some bribing and old fashioned guilt tripping and we had ourselves a "Backside" ride up to the lodge.
We were in business.
Bluebird, gorgeous, you name it, it was that superlative too. THe chute was dark and quiet for a change and we booted our way up the 50 degree chute.
We topped out around 1 and had some lunch, enjoyed the view, and avoided having to ski the steeps on summer legs.
Eventually we got it together and dropped in. The roll off the top is the steepest part, and was perfect snow. Good slough, soft, and fun. Everyone railed it, excepting maybe Joe who was getting vertigo because of his hang over when his slough started running.
1000m long, the 3/4 is a seriously impressive couloir and as we popped out the bottom to be reminded of why we all brought our rock skis, we couldn't believe how good we got it. It felt like winter. The rythym, the talk, the snow the feeling.
The boulder field at the bottom snapped us back into the Fall and we stumbled along the lake back to the lodge to hitch a ride out.
THe best first run of the season Ithink any of us had had.
Bring on winter!!!
