Ski movie season for me kicked off in unique form last night, as the newschool(ers) tribe gathered in the heart of old Montreal for an outdoor screening of Transitions; a new movie about Simon Dumont. It was a cool vibe to see a bunch of skiers, watching rad images, surrounded by old buildings and even though there wasn't a mountain insight, the stoke was strong. The movie was cool enough to keep even an oldschooler like me interested and it was a successful evening that ended at some fancy club with high security. It was NewSchoolers.com 10th anniversary party, a milestone that biglines is almost at btw. I promise not to play rave like music at the party though, if we even have one, which we should.
I'm here because biglines.com is sponsoring today's screenings of 8 movies at the IF3 Event. This is my first time to Montreal and it's been fun so far but it's a world away from the tiny little mountain town that I live in. It's also been an exposure experience with the eastern scene and a lot of stoked teenagers. I feel kinda stupid, because the biglines swag I brought here to throw into the crowd is all stuff that will actually fit these kids; what a silly mistake. Because tonight there won't be a medium sized hoodie in the whole the crowd. It's quite ironic that I was pondering a couple weeks ago, how I was going to get rid of all the XXL hoodies that we have left over from the years. It's not like there is a lot of massive dudes out there who actually ski big lines. But I now know that these are the perfect hoodies for the newschoolers of the world: who are probably the future viewers of biglines. As these guys grow up and move beyond the boarders of the terrain park, they're going to want information about how to get where they wanna go in the back country and maybe biglines will be there for them.
For now I'm just going to hang out here and enjoy the culture in Montreal. Today I have 8 ski movies to watch and an even bigger party to go later. So it's off the computer and into full on ski movie mode.
