Biglines - Whistler Blackcomb At Whistler Blackcomb we take our mission seriously -- to create memories for our guests and our staff as the best mountain recreation experience, again and again. A part of accomplishing this mission is improving our facilities and systems, on-mountain and off. For the 2003/2004 season, we have spent more than 14.5 million dollars in capital expenditures, and improvements range from widened trail intersections to increased day parking.

"All of the capital expenditures are focused on improving the guest and the
staff experience
," said Bob DuFour, Whistler Blackcomb Director of
Operations. "For example, a lot of our on-mountain improvements, like
regrading trails and increasing our snowmaking capabilities, will allow for
a better early season experience, improve our ability to groom and will
allow for extended ski outs. Each change makes a difference, especially to
our early season."

The list of capital improvements is long, but some of the highlights are as
follows:

* Better early season skiing thanks to increased investment in
Blackcomb Mountain's snowmaking system, including increased size of the
snowmaking reservoir (holding up to 18 million gallons!).

* $225,000 worth of mountain restoration, concentrated in the Jersey
Cream area on Blackcomb Mountain. Restored vegetation will allow for
earlier opening, even with less snow, reduce erosion in the area, and
improve wildlife habitats.

* Improvements to the Highway 86 and Grand Finale Trail intersection
in the Bagel Bowl area on Whistler Mountain. The intersection has been
widened to significantly reduce congestion.

* More parking stalls, including covered parking in the Creekside.
With the new parking structure we now offer a total of 1350 parking stalls
for public parking use plus 100 commercial spaces.

* Expansion to the Chipmunk Terrain Park area on Whistler Mountain
near the Jolly Green Giant intersection, doubling the size of the park.

* The introduction of a new Enchanted Forest play area on Whistler
Mountain between the Pony Trail and Bear Cub. No skiing is allowed in this
secret 'kids only' zone, which includes tunnels and tree forts.

* Even better beginner terrain at Olympic Station. The area has been
regraded to make learning to ski and ride easier.

* Improved entrance to Whistler Bowl, providing easier access to
Whistler Bowl and Shale Slope. This area will be groomed periodically, and
represents North America's steepest grooming.

In the last week, Whistler Blackcomb has received fresh snow on its peaks,
and the excitement is building for the 2003-2004 season. For more
