Based out of southern California and materializing like magic from collective mind signals bouncing from neuron to neuron in the TGR forums, PM Gear designs handmade skis created specifically for real skiers. For people whose lives and minds are consumed by skiing. I was lucky enough to receive a pair of the stiff Bro Model 188's and tested the ski out a few days ago. The conditions mainly consisted of frozen crud snow, the kind that has refrozen after being soft from the sun. The testing grounds included cruded out steeps, frozen park, and frozen groomers.
This ski comes across as a soft ski at first, but then...ooohh the suspense...you quickly realize that it's a pretty stiff ski. The're stiff enough to where if your standing on them and you lift one leg and try to bend the tail of the ski by pressing down, it doesn't really bend. I'm sure the 188 soft flex is a better fit for manmade backcountry jibs due to the length, but when it comes to skiing through firm choppy crud however, the stiff flex ski charges right through it without much chatter at all. For someone under 6ft tall and who weighs around 68 kg or less (I am at about 6'1ft and 81 kg) this is a super solid big mountain ski and would suit big mountain comps. Basically this ski kills it for riding steeps, chutes, cliffs, etc in all conditions being 125-99-114. If your only planning on having one ski for everything, this would be the ski, a true all mountain ski.
On the durability side, this ski is really solid and well built. It's not going to shatter being a sandwhiched wood core construction. It honestly is one of the toughest if not the toughest ski I have ever skied on. PM Gear team riders Athan Merrick and Sam Wright definitely concurred on this subject after asking their opinion of the skis overall manliness factor. Why do you think they're called Bro Models? After all, they're not called Chick Models. If you want some chick models you should fly down to Argentina and hang out in Buenos Aires for like 5 seconds.
All in all, think Dynastar Legend Pros but easier on the pocket and built by a core group of shredders here in North America. What's more, you get to choose the stiffness of your skis, ranging from Soft, Stiff and Super Stiff.
