What do you get when you mix a ten year old with a switch nine and toss it in the air? The winner of the Salomon Jib Academies Visit to Canada Olympic Park. Kids from 0 to 16 showed up for the well organized and well groomed Salomon event which i had the privilege of filming. And let me say, I was interested the entire day with some of the best park skiers Calgary had to offer throwin' their meat in every direction. People traveled from far and wide for their shot at the title and it made for festive vibe. Check out pics from Devon Boulton Mills and film from Joel Whalen.

The event went like this. Show up, (that usually helps), register then you get teamed up with pros from the Salomon team to ride with in the morning. The Salomon Pro Coaches on hand included Dane Tudor, Kaya Turski, Denise Jaworsky, Erin Kerr and Drew Wittstock. Dane Tudor, let me just say he also bagged a little bit of hangtime on some of the well groomed tables with corn snow landings.

As the day warmed it proceeded into a best trick comp on two tables and there were some pretty bad-ass lines going, lots of tricks and surprisingly enough, LOADS of style. The riders judged their peers and sent 15 of their fellow shredders into the finals. The last 15 eased into a similar session and got silly.

With a national pipe comp going on next door in the superpipe there were lots of over aged shredders droppin' in just laying the smack down- like cab ten smack down. At one point I saw an unnamed poacher drop in with a backpack on, no poles, into a three jump line, first hit, switch mist 9 , to flat 5, to switch back flip SO clean and with a backpack.

After the last sessions, riders voted for whom they thought deserved the trip to Mount Tremblent and I'm going to have to say little Brendan Mackay deserved that trip because one day he's going to be 15 and then 20 and hes going to kill it. I figure if hes 10 and can do cab nines now if he adds a 180 every year to that switch rotation, by the time he turns 20, he will be doing switch 2700 and thats so hot right now!

The final votes were then tallied by the Salomon Crew and Coaches and the following prizes were awarded.
