The 72 hour filmmaker showdown was a fantastic display. 17 out of 24 candidates finished their flicks before the deadline. Out of those 17 entries, 6 of them made the final cut. These 6 videos all under 4 and half minutes in lenth were amazing.
The highlights were definitely a video made about 3 young rippers in Whistler one of them was Kye Peterson, Trever Peterson's kid. It was an awesome little flick which simulated a video game, and they got points for every trick they did. There were 3 levels, each getting progressivly harder, culminating in a Game Over with all the traditional sound effects. Team 13 put out an awesome little flick which incorporated Matt's awesome cinematography skill, summarizing the first 3 days of the WSSF with some great special effects. Rain was a short flick, less than a minute, and used some artistic photography to capture the mood of the weekend in the village. The next film visually followed a day in the life of a normal guy from Whistler, but the soundtrack was all news reports of the war in the middle east. It put a sombering effect into the Whistler bubble, and definitely made you think about what's happenning in the world. There was another film which featured the best images of the snowboard superpipe and big air.
Lastly, a film called The Last Cigarrette won the competition and was thoroughly entertaining. It followed a guy through a day of his life and his last pack of smokes as he was attempting to quit. It featured 18 different situations where he was having a smoke. The acting was great and the entire story was very entertaining and well written. Even though it didn't contain a lick of skiing, it was a great movie. Overall the event was great, and the talent pool was strong, can't wait to see next years.
