It's 6:00am and I am crushing a Red Bull to wake myself up and pinching myself to make sure that I really am about to realize one of my dreams. I'm a fifteen minute sled ride away from joining two legendary skiers at Snowwater Heliskiing. As a youngster, my bedroom wall was plastered with cutouts from Powder magazine of Scot Schmidt. Not so many years later the work of cinematographer Matt Herriger took me around the World skiing with Micah Black right from my living room futon. I am now sitting next to these giants in a helicopter high over the deep white caps of the Kootenays.

This is not my first time hanging out with Micah Black. We met in Spokane at a ski show a few years ago. A few months later we sat next to each other by random chance on a chairlift in Engelberg and skied one of the best days of both of our lives. The following winter we met again in the Kootenays and then again in Jackson.

There is something about Micah Black. An energy and a charisma that draws you in. He has stories of travels that tale on forever and every single one gets you stoked. Micah's done everything that I dream of. He has raced for first descents with Dean Cummings in Alaska, tele skied Mont Blanc and spent seasons in Chamonix, skied remote couloirs in Italy and slayed the biggest and gnarliest of lines at his home mountain of Jackson Hole.

So how about Scot Schmidt? I think most of us know what he has done. He was if not the first one of the first "extreme" skiers in North America and one of the best ever to grace the snow the world over. He may be the very reason that I packed my bags and followed my dream to the mountains. He seems quiet and confident. I look at his face and try to imagine what he has done and the things he has seen. Between these two veterans there are a closet full of ground breaking events in the world of off piste skiing.

We are on a television production shoot for Backcountry Television. Unfortunately the conditions wont allow any big and exposed lines to be skied. This week is about taking care and being safe. The conditions are dangerous and we are finding what we can in supported areas, however lunch breaks are a special time. Im paying very close attention as I watch Micah and Scot scope big lines, they talk about routes and how sweet they look. Micah does most of the chatting and Scot smiles and nods with a gleam in his eyes.

I'm home now. I still cant believe it. I just skied with some of my heroes. Well... I skied behind them, actually... way behind them. I'm stiil pinching myself.
