Its that time of year again, oh yes, oh yes, a time of change when days get longer, nights get shorter, and the boards get put away and a waterski/ bike/whatever becomes the new vehicle from which we get to escape. All our cares and responsibilities dissolve into the warm summer air, and leave us only with the feeling of being little kids again. It's the time of year when I like to see how many cliches I can cram into one sentence. It also....happens to be that time of year when the second largest mountain range in the world is beginning its winter season. If you don't know which geographic location I am speaking of, then its time to go to that childhood place and remember your 3rd grade geography class.
The yearly migration is almost upon us, as the North Americans who just aren't satisfied with one winter season are gearing up to head south for the summer. Just can't live with one winter can you, gotta have two, two apple pies, two more drinks before leaving the bar, just can't be content, gotta have two winters, aren't you special. Yep, put yourself in the shoes of a South American who's only contact with America people and Canadians is with the crazy gringos and skids they meet every year in their home mountains. They must be baffled as to how the hell the US is the world's largest economy when all these Americans invade their homeland every year just to ski for months on end. As for the Canadians...well, thats where all the skids come from. We like to think of ourselves as pioneers, exploring the andes in search of powder, corn, and gigantor lines and couloirs. Oh yeah, and culture too. Experiencing new cultures, traditions, and females...or males if your a girl. If you want to get a little taste of what I am talking about , then check out this "slideshow" from 2006 with South American Snow Sessions. Let it take you from the fertile vineyards and towering peaks of Mendoza to the charming streets of San Telmo, Boca, and Rio de la Plata (not quite). Hum to the tune of streetside tango, taste the finest beef and wines, and dance till morning to the sounds of the hippest DJ's and most cutting edge electronic beats. Total number of cliches...13. Total number of photos used in the video...??? (whoever guesses the number right gets an enhanced sense of pride)
