We’ll Remember This
Finally! A season where people aren’t grumbling about how good previous
winters have been. When you’re in the right place at the right time,
there’s no need to talk about anything else. With the bulk of North
America’s moisture converging on the BC Interior this winter, nobody at
Kicking Horse has been saying “you should have been here last year.”
Kicking Horse POW Video 18mgs
According to Kicking Horse’s snow phone, which isn’t usually the most
reliable source of information, our mountain has been caked with over 1000
centimetres of snowfall this season. But when you’re able to cut
legitimate lines through habitually shark-infested rock faces, the proof
is in the shredding.
Strangely enough, our record-breaking season has been a mixed blessing.
With Europe and the Western US suffering through horrifically brown
winters, Kicking Horse’s capacity has been pushed beyond its limit.
Luckily, the conditions have justified the lift lines.
Now that winter has progressed into spring, we’ve finally been able to
reclaim our mountain. As if to reward us for enduring a year of
record-breaking crowds, late March has delivered some of the best
shredding yet. With blower snow up top and poor man’s pow (slush) on the
lower half of the mountain, we’ve had to slap each other to make sure
we’re actually awake.
To prove that we weren’t dreaming, videographer Scott Kells came up to the
hill and documented the epic conditions. On account of a mysterious hand
injury, he had to film everything switchstance. With our hill closing at
what seems like a premature time, it’ll be nice to have Scott’s video to
help transcend the summery months.
So enjoy the flick. And on behalf of all the snowriders in Golden, I’d
like to thank Mother Nature for a season that reminds us why we play this
occasionally frustrating game. Thanks for justifying every sacrifice we’ve
ever made to be in the mountains.
Cheers 2006-2007.
This party’s been fucking awesome.
