Masterpiece in Motion (MIM) continues its hunt for the best original snowboard and skateboard art in the world, with a worldwide call for submissions.
Artists have until March 16 2007 to submit their original visual art and graphic designs for snowboard and skateboard canvasses. 30 finalists will have their designs showcased at the ten day TELUS World Ski & Snowboard Festival, putting the most fresh innovative street art directly before a tidal wave of street-savvy viewers.
In 2006, the exposure launched MIM finalist Zak Wilson towards commercial success. When Togo’s Sandwich shops of California ran a promo based on Snowboard Art, they hooked up with Wilson, and commissioned him to produce a series of designs that became part of a winterlong traveling roadshow that hits North and SoCal skateparks, Rail Jams, gear shops, sweet surf breaks and will be at Snow Summit/Bear Mountain and Sierra Summit throughout January and February.
The 2007 Masterpiece in Motion Champion will walk away with US$1000, an Ascension snowboard featuring their winning art, and the opportunity to work with Ascension Snowboards to develop a line of boards featuring their Snowboard Art.
The top three winners, as chosen by a jury of industry leaders, will take home a cash purse, and the top 3 honourable mentions will receive Original Snowboard Art Top Skin(™). A People’s Choice award will be elected on-line at www.whistler2007.com and announced at the Festival.
Says contest founder, Bob Lutnicki of US-based OriginalSnowboardArt.com, the world’s source for original snowboard and skateboard art, “Entrants over the past 2 years have made MIM the biggest and most prestigious board art competition in the world. The Masterpiece In Motion Snowboard Art Competition is truly a shout-out to the culture – the individual voices expressed on the snowboard canvasses are amplified into a roof-busting chant for our way of life when they’re all brought together at the Festival.”
Whistler suffers no shortage of advocates for lifestyle. TELUS World Ski & Snowboard Festival Managing Director Sue Eckersley says, “The Festival is built on three pillars of sport, music and arts, and it’s where those mingle and intersect that the energy really gets exciting. The Festival has become the epicenter for showcasing art that is inspired by the action sports world. On the hill, we have the world’s best riders throwing down tricks, and at the base of the mountain, their tools displayed as canvasses. This is not your ordinary art exhibit. It’s a showcase of creativity that pulses with energy and relevance and the crowds love it.”
Masterpiece in Motion is produced by OriginalSnowboardArt.com and sponsored by Ascension Snowboards, in association with the TELUS World Ski & Snowboard Festival, the largest annual winter sports festival in North America held each April in Whistler, Canada.
