The competition format followed the IFSA (International Free Skier’s Association) Big Mountain Freeskiing guidelines, which dictates that participants ski the mountain unrestricted by gates or formal course layouts, while taking aggressive lines and making big drops on varied and challenging terrain. Judges evaluate skiers in five categories – line choice, fluidity, technique, aggression, and control. Jeff Holden, head judge of the Open, returned to lead his team of judges for another year. Captain Jack Carey, Competition Director since 1991, lead the event with technical perfection.

Ledcor Group of Companies joined the Open as Presenting Sponsor for the 2007 event. A global construction company, Ledcor is presently working in the community of Rossland at Red’s condominium project "Slalom Creek". As a general principle, Ledcor supports the community by providing local opportunities through employment and supplier contracts.

The Canadian Open Freeskiing Championship, Canada’s longest running competition of its kind, will return to Red Mountain Resort again in 2008 with a second yet-to-be-announced competition discipline in addition to Big Mountain.
