CAA Avalanche Operations Level 1 Course

* Lake Louise Inn (Lake Louise, AB) March 11-17 & 18-24, 2007
This course is the first professional level training course for persons who are seeking employment with avalanche safety operations. Participants must be advanced skiers or snowboarders and should have considerable backcountry travel experience commensurate with industry standards. The Level 1 course is a prerequisite course to almost all entry level positions in the avalanche industry and many other industry-training programs.
This intensive 7 to 8 day professional course will provide students with a solid understanding of the avalanche phenomenon including mountain snow pack formation & characteristics, terrain identification & classification, weather data collection & basic interpretation, essential companion & organized rescue skills, snow-profile data collection, basic snow stability analysis including InfoEx interpretation and a look at risk management principles in avalanche operations.
The program underwent a significant rewrite during the summer of 2005 and is now upgraded annually.
Prerequisites:
* a minimum of an Avalanche Skills Training Course (AST L1) or equivalent training. Participation on AST course before your level 1 is acceptable for those that dont have AST at time of application.
* advanced backcountry travel skills in either skiing or snowboarding
* proficient & consistent multiple burial transceiver skills
* 19 years of age or older for courses in BC, 18 years of age or older for courses in AB
Tuition: $1250.00/student
Hut Fees for Burnie Glacier: $825, includes helicopter transport, accommodation & meals.
