[Whistler, British Colombia, Canada] – Friday August 11, 2006 – The Whistler Valley Snowboard Club (WCSC) is proud to announce the launch of the Whistler Valley Snowboard Academy (WVSA), a new program allowing young snowboarders to get the most advanced snowboard coaching while going to school and living at The Academy.
The Whistler Valley Snowboard Club launches The AcademyLocated in the hearth of Whistler, The Academy is prepared to accommodate co-ed students/athletes with single and shared rooms. Everyday, two well/balanced meals plus healthy snacks will be provided and a kitchen will be available at any time. Internet service is provided and students are encouraged to bring their own laptops and any other electronic device they may want to use. A guardian will always be present to assist in any situation.
As part of the snowboard program, members will have the opportunity to snowboard 100_ days on Whistler Blackcomb Mountains, some of the most incredible terrain in North America. Competitive members will have the opportunity to travel to different mountains throughout the season for Half-pipe, Big Air, Rail Jam, Boarder cross and Big Mountain competitions. Evening tutoring, as well as, video analysis, video editing and graphic design workshops are included.
Athletes enrolling in WVSA coaching program will have the opportunity to attend Whistler Secondary School as part of their Sports School program for the entire school year or part of the year.
The WVSA will be the first of its kind in Canada with its first session will take place this winter season (2006-2007). Led by Joe McAdoo, WVSA’s coaching program will encourage hard work, self-discipline and dedication, providing a solid foundation for success in every aspect of life.
Joe is a former national/international competitor. Joe moved on to Assistant Coach for the Canadian Snowboard Federation Halfpipe Team, followed by Head Coach of the National Development Team. In 2003, Joe joined the WVSC taking charge of all on and off hill training.
The WVSC is now accepting applications for its first WVSA session starting in September. Space is limited so call now to register.
About The Whistler Valley Snowboard Club
The WVSC is Whistler Blackcomb high-end freestyle snowboard teen program that encourage both competition and recreational riders to fully meet their potential. Successfully established in 1997 by founder and Director, Rob Picard, the club has nurtured snowboarders such as Tyler Massey, Tim Orr, Johnny Lyall, Mikey Rencz, Mercedes Nicoll and Aaron Shapiro, just to name a few.
Since 2003, Joe McAdoo has been overseeing coaching and day to day training to ensure the curriculum encourages progression as Head Coach. Working with coaches such as Olivier Roy, Tom Kato, Mark “Chachi” Trinidad, Chris Wimbles, Amanda Mourant, Waylon Edwards, Ryan Rausch, including previous members Tyler Massey, Tim Orr, Johnny Lyall and Aaron Shapiro.
Back on the team is Marie Fortin, who is assisting in the development of the Club and Academy. Marie was one of the first members to enter the club in 1997 and was among the members to go to the BCSA Provincial Championship and then to the Nationals in 1998. As founder of Hilltrip, a Social Marketing Organization, Marie is stocked to participate in the development of great athletes.
