The event is in support of the Canadian Avalanche Association¹s
Avalanche Awareness days taking place at over 30 communities in the Canadian
territories the weekend of January 14-16th.

The BCA Blackcomb Beacon Bowl is a contest in which participants use a
beacon to search for multiple buried transmitters at BCA¹s Beacon Basin.
Beacons are buried at different depths with a piece of plywood covering
them. The person who probes the most beacons within a given category and
time limit wins. The contest is open to the public including amateurs and
professionals. BCA asks that you donate to the Canadian Avalanche Center in
lieu of a standard entry fee.

There will be a local BCA representative as well as BCA¹s vice president,
Bruce Edgerly, at the event to officiate and give beacon demonstrations.

The event begins at 9am on Saturday and will run through 3pm. Awards will be
given at 3:15pm at the Beacon Basin site.

Directions to the event
A) Traverse right from the top of the Solar Coaster lift to the large grey
Ski Patrol building (where the snowcat/groomers are parked). The BCA Beacon
Basin is behind the building.

B) From the top of Jersey Cream or Catskinner chairs take the ³7th Ave.² run
until you can turn right down to the grey Ski Patrol Building
