Unsure of the road closure, the police officer pulled up beside us and asked us if the vehicle was equipped with 4X4. We answered hesitantly, yes. He gave us a second look and gave the go ahead. Realizing as ski bums, we had driven the worst that mother nature had thrown at us, we were prepared for anything and, as we passed the line-up of vehicles that were denied access. we laughed with joy knowing the deepest storm in recent years was all ours and few would be let up behind us.
Upon arrival the parking lot was deep. Sunshine Village had got nuked and registered a two day storm total of 60cm. Only a few rows of cars were between us and eternal happyness. Turn after turn, face shot after face shot, we hooted and hollered. It was dry and yes it was deep. We aired anything in sight. We had first tracks on all of our favorite runs. It was snowing so hard by afternoon we had first tracks on all of our favorite runs again. Too good to be true. But wait there's more, first tracks in the infamous Delirium Dive and then again in WildWest; A new backcountry controlled coulior stash. What had we done? Why did we deserve this? I will never know. But ullr send some more this way!!!
