FERNIE ALPINE RESORT, BRITISH COLUMBIA – Fernie Alpine Resort is geared up and ready to host the Quixtar Canada Cup Mountain Bike Series event on
August 14 & 15, 2004.
Registrations are coming in from across the country and currently sit at approximately 150 pre-registered participants for the Cross Country and the Rip ‘n Richards Downhill races. Registered participants in the Cross Country race include five of the top 25 Senior Elite female riders in Canada and 10 of the top 25 Senior Elite male riders including current leader Roddi Lega from Alberta, second place rider Andrew Watson from Ontario and third
place Andrew Kyle from BC. “Fernie Alpine Resort is excited to have these riders joining us for this event. The courses that our trail crews have prepared for them will be challenging and exciting,” says Karen Pepper, Events & Promotions Coordinator at Fernie Alpine Resort. “We are expecting to have 400 riders for the event as registration is available until the night prior to their respective race.”
Racers will begin arriving in Fernie early this week to practice. The courses will be marked and ready with race officials arriving Wednesday to approve the routes and begin final preparations for the event.
The race schedule begins at 8:00 am on Saturday with the Cross Country event. The StraightLine Fat Tire Crit Race will follow the day’s activities in downtown Fernie at 7:00 pm. Sunday features the popular and always
exciting Rip ‘n Richards Downhill race beginning at 11:00 am. Awards are presented throughout the day for the cross-country event and at the
completion of the downhill race. The awards ceremonies will be held in the Fernie Alpine Resort Village Plaza with cash winnings to the Senior Elite categories in each event.
