"With many of last year's backcountry tragedies taking place so close to home, we
are extremely cognizant of the importance of avalanche awareness and safety
training," said Gord Vizzutti, Marketing Manager at Kicking Horse Mountain Resort.
"As a resort that sits on the edge of spectacular, but dangerous backcountry
terrain, we are well aware of the importance of precautions as part of our own
comprehensive daily avalanche prevention strategies. This weekend's program gives us
the opportunity to share our knowledge with the public."

The aim of this year's Columbia Brewery Avalanche Awareness Days, held from January
9th to 11th, 2004 in conjunction with the Canadian Avalanche Association (CAA), is
to help people develop a life-long understanding of the backcountry.

"Winter in Canada's mountains is part of our national heritage and we believe that
with respect for nature and the right backcountry know-how, we can enjoy it for
life," said Todd Beernink, of the Canadian Avalanche Association.
