Destination Rossland:
Sale of Red Mountain
Red Mountain has signed an agreement to sell all of the issued and outstanding shares of Red Mountain Resorts Inc to a group lead by Howard Katkov of California.

On September 18th 2003, the grape vine started with a rumour and by October 2nd a formal announcement confirms that the ski hill will possibly sell; June 1st 2004 is the closing date.
This is not the first time there was an accepted offer on the ski hill. Two years ago another group had their eye on Red Mountain, but the tragedy of September 11th made their paths change direction.
Year after year there is lots of speculation about the sale of the hill but nothing ever comes to fruition. It is frustrating for the local community because the majority of the population has an undying love for the mountain. Red Mountain is our town’s community centre. Years ago the Red Mountain Ski Club originally owned the ski hill. The ski club ran the hill as a nonprofit society. Everyone that bought a season’s pass had one vote for that year; that made the hill a part of our lives. That era has long been sold, and put in the hands of private owners.
Howard Katkov is not from Rossland and does not live here. He does own one of the bigger homes here and vacations here 7 to 8 weeks out of the year. In an interview with a local newspaper, he did mention that he wanted to work with the community of Rossland to develop the ski hill.
What does this all mean? I am not sure but you can guarantee I will find out.
Until next time!
