Wrangle the Shoot Photography Comp Info
Jan 26, 2010
We are inviting you, your equipment and your skills to come out to the 2nd annual Wrangle the Chute Freeride Competition and catch the great moments on camera. The Kicking Horse Events Team will be choosing 20 photographers who will have VIP access to the event site between 10am and 4pm on Saturday, February 6th, 2010. At the end of the day, you will have until 7pm to upload, tweak, and edit your top 5 shots, upload the photos on a memory stick together with a Bio Sheet, and get it into the hands of the Events Team. We will then print your photos and bio on 11 x17 photo paper and hang them in the mezzanine of the Day Lodge, where the Big Mountain Centre after party will be taking place. All photos will be judged by the public based on the following 5 categories:
Best Action, Best Landscape, Best Lifestyle, People’s Choice, Overall Best Photographer
There will be cash prizes and swag for winners of all categories, but the BIG ONE will be $1,000 cash to the winner of the Overall Best Photographer. This prize will be in exchange for full, restricted and unlimited, rights to the 5 photos. Kicking Horse Mountain Resort will be using these photos in event summary promotions as well in creating 2010/2011 collateral and advertising for the entire resort. An agreement will be prepared by the Resort for further details on the terms and conditions.
please see below in the comments section for more information on the usage of the pictures.
If you are interested and would like to participate, please email us with a bio, or brief description of you as a photographer, and provide a website or photo links for our review. We will compile the list of 20 finalists and notify the successful entrants by Wednesday, February 3, 2010.

this is what you should have
this is what you should have originally posted.
so if i'm correct, the photos will be used to promote the event only?
cause originally you said they'd be used to promote the whole resort....which i'm sure you can understand is a pretty monumental difference.
lets be friends?

Hey Guys
Just wanted to blast out a quick update on ‘Wrangle the Shoot’ as some of you have taken the proposal the wrong way and have started some banter that is a little misleading.
Question: What is the deal with the ‘Wrangle the Shoot’ and what exactly are they planning to do with the images if I win?
Here is the low down on what we are planning to do with the 1st ‘Wrangle the Shoot’ photo comp.
The KHMR events team has pushed to make this one happen and managed to round up $1,000 for the person who shoots edit and submit 5 event images over the course of a one day photo shoot out. Since our original communications on the comp seems to have been taken the wrong way, we would like to set the record straight:
· VIP access to the event site for three days for the folks who are keen in partaking in the shoot out.
o This includes your lift passes
o We are going to limit this to 20 – 30 people
· 5 images to be shot, edited and submitted for a one night art show happening on Saturday Feb 6th
o All we need is a zip drive with shots sized up at 11 by 17 and we will look after printing them
· Shots will be display in the day lodge and the crowd will get to vote to figure out who is going to get $1,000
o All photographers are being asked to design a bio sheet (11X17) that can be displayed with your work
o Logo’s, website reference and anything that promotes your photography / business is welcome
· The events team would like to be able to use these 5 images to help promote the grow the event in the coming years
o Rights to use the image for advertising and press specifics to future ‘Wrangle the Chute’ events
o Full photo credit with the image every time it is used
o Use will be limited to Wrangle the Chute advertising and in all reality most likely only three images will be used on any of the printed material
· The big misunderstanding is around our mistake of mentioning the whole ‘unrestricted and unlimited use’. This is not the case and this is what we would like to be able to do with the image:
o Send out images to the media to use for articles about the event (with full photo credit)
o Use the images for promoting the event in the future (likely for one year)
o Use the image for next year’s event poster and advertising (with full photo credit)
o Photographers are welcome to do whatever they wish with the images as well
· The only thing we want to avoid is having photographers raise a stink if the image happens to surface on someone’s web page or in some kind of article three or four years down the line.
This is what we are tossing on the table and you are welcome to take it or leave it.
The whole idea behind this event is to get some folks out at the event, having some fun, supporting their friends (the athletes) and having a chance to win pretty solid prize. (same sized purse as the 1st place for the main event)
Hope to see you on the mountain next weekend, being a part of the show and enjoying an event and don’t hesitate to drop me a line with questions before you post online comments on an event concept we are hopeful to launch and grow in the years to come.
Cheers from

I'd be curious, just for fun,
I'd be curious, just for fun, to hear what the Fotoquote price is for unlimited and unrestricted release? Not that I agree or think Fotoquote is even a relevant tool for the ski industry.
