“Environmental stewardship is part of our corporate culture and we are thrilled BC Hydro recognizes us for our efforts,” says Dave Brownlie, President and COO at Whistler Blackcomb. “Our company has an annual target of five per cent energy reduction including electricity, natural gas and fuel for vehicles. Over the past year, in partnership with BC Hydro, Whistler Blackcomb has saved 1.5 million kWh or four per cent of the company’s overall energy consumption. We are also in the process of implementing new energy conservation projects estimated to save an additional 1.5 million kWh over the next year.”
Whistler Blackcomb has also been named one of Canada’s Greenest Employers by the editors of Canada’s Top 100 Employers for the fourth year in a row. Whistler Blackcomb is committed to one day achieving a zero operating footprint and believes in an “Every Step Counts” philosophy. Whistler Blackcomb’s in-house environmental management team spearheaded the development of a company-wide Sustainability Policy which outlines Whistler Blackcomb’s key areas of focus, including energy conservation, waste reduction, as well as guest and staff awareness education.
In addition to energy conservation awards, Whistler Blackcomb has been named one of Canada’s Best Employers for Young People as chosen by the editors of Canada's Top 100 Employers. There are a number of programs that led to this recognition including training for employees, mentorship opportunities, employee share ownership, staff housing options and easy accessibility to management staff.
