Whistler Alpine Steep Academy

I can think of worse ways to learn to shred. Whistler Alpine Steep Academy (WASA) offers a 1-day clinic, a 2-day program, and a 5-day steep camp. They also offer 2, 3 and 5-day heli-assisted programs. Can't complain about that.

From the website: "If you are looking for a cost effective way to get deep into the backcountry with untracked lines as far as the eye can see this could be the ticket. We arrive at the hanger the night before and do a quick safety meeting to learn the ins and outs of the helicopter. Then the next morning we all meet up again and fly out into the unknown for an experience like you’ve never had. With the heli assist we can be within a quick hike of a magnificent peak in less then 30 minutes. We would then spend all day ripping laps on pristine peaks with epic snow conditions. If you want the heli ski experience without the huge dollars associated with a week at a lodge this is well within your price range. Not to mention the world class guide and coach on hand to give you helpful technique tips and safe passage through the mountains. "

"This is a high velocity ski adventure. It will take physical exertion and patientce. We will ski the best terrain imaginable. You will walk away from this with a feeling of accomplishment. The Whistler Alpine Steep Academy can teach you everything a person needs to know about getting down challenging terrain. We can also give you great techniques on hiking and navigating safely in the backcountry. We are all about safety. Our 5 day programs are the first of its kind. We have an experienced ACMG guide and professional skier as your teachers. With a combined experience in the backcountry of over 30 years the experience and the skilled knowledge is undeniable.

Some people ski for a lifetime to learn what we can potentially teach you in this short amount of time. We will begin with a short safety meeting and beacon search, then move onto the slopes for a game plan for the day and begin the quick hike to our line of choice. The goal of the day is to always enjoy yourself, this means being safe and skiing strong. If you are not an experienced skier on hill this may not be the program for you. It is not for beginners or anyone that hasn’t skied over 100 plus days in their life. We are high level backcountry skiers. If you want foot rubs and a massage with tenderloin for lunch go to some other Heli outfit we are for those that want excitement. So leave the skinny skis in the closet and get ready for the thrill of your life."
