Project 3PO invites new media submissions to battle for $3500

As a celebration of innovation, technology and culture, the ThreePointOh (3P0) New Media Showcase will present 3-5 minute digital shorts that best morph film, photo, graphics and animation, visual art, and other media into a production that transcends the sum of its technical parts to create a moment of emotional resonance.

The new media digital showcase will see ten finalists chosen to screen at the TELUS World Ski and Snowboard Festival in Whistler, Monday April 19 2010, with the Best of Show awarded $2500 cash, and a People’s Choice Award voted by audience members.

Having debuted at the 2009 Festival, with Dave Mossop and Callum Peterson of Rocky Mountain Sherpas winning over both judges (to win Best of Show with Paper Shredders) and the audience (to win People’s Choice Award with Fluid Circles), Project 3P0 returns with a simple rallying call to the digitally-fluent:

Think: Playing Outside the Lines.

Think : Projection.

Think: Three Points of Origin.

Project 3PO is about taking creativity to the cusp – bringing the Festival’s spectrum of elements (mountain culture, art, music, film, and photography) together to create individual productions that are greater than the sum of their parts. Constituent elements in the digital films must draw on at least three points of origin – image and sound (in the form or music, narration, sound effects, sound bites), motion (media including 2D animation, video composite short, film, 3D animation, photography, 2D still, claymation, 3D still, art installation, graphics, sculpture)  and interactive screen (including interactive screen or interactive installation.)

Creators are invited to submit their 3-5 minute production to Katie Svenson, Production Coordinator by March 26 2010. Submission guidelines and the 2009 Best in Show for the Project 3PO Multimedia Showcase are at http://wssf.com/2010/threepointoh/
