Kicking Horse serves it up again, deep and sunlit
Submitted by BrigidMander on Sun, 2010-01-17 10:24
Lucky for us, Kicking Horse delivered the goods, again, and it was game on. Despite a ridiculous junk show of waiting Saturday morning, beginning with a missing contact case, to a coal train blocking the road on the way to the ski hill, painfully creeping along the tracks, and a vastly larger swarm of people than had clearly ever been seen at the resort before, all cramming onto the gondola…it all worked out a-ok. As in, who knows what all those people skied because we didn’t have to look too hard for over the head deep, all day long.
In between the long, long, lift lines, we found amazing stashes of slightly tracked but still incredibly fluffy snow, and then things like unskied spines and drops. People were still getting untouched lines at the end of the day inbounds, and our one late day foray into the slackcountry was richly rewarded, with a sunlit powder rip into deep, deep, pillowy tree lines that went on and on. It was a straight up unbelievable day at the Horse. When the crowds finally got tired and went away, happily drinking beers at the base, I stood for a last run over soft, steep, barely skied line, and reflected for a moment on how good it is when you hit it right here. And then, I skied some more pow.
