Free-Refill Friday in Jackson Hole
While small storms battered this area throughout last week, a lot of local skiers didn’t care, saying bleak things like, “it’s not enough,” and going back to bed. And they were right-until today, when it all came together. Hero snow coated the features and filled in chutes and buried the mountain from the summit to the lower faces. Still, it seemed like a lot of people must have already bailed to Bermuda or something, because walk-on powder day trams and empty bootpacks is quite a rarity in these parts.
No horde. Just us. Weird. Good.
Inbounds lines skied amazing, and we got thigh deep turns down the Alta chutes at noon! Unheard of! And it got even better in the trees- untracked! All day! The sidecountry was bizarrely empty, even with relatively stable storm snow. And the fact that we skied choking deep, bottomless powder, and poofed our way down to the valley floor on untouched pillows in the AFTERNOON! was astounding Not only that it was that deep and that good after such a slow start…but that we had it all to ourselves. Its about time, is all I can say, for both of these things.
