Blackcomb Opened Today. It was (surprisingly) Sick.

After sleeping through my alarm, I received a phone call from someone inquiring if I was skiing. And demanding that if I wasn't already, I should be because it was "pretty darn good" up the mountain. I grabbed my brand-new Megawatts and headed for the door, because if Blackcomb was anything like Whistler was last week, rock skis = not necessary.
Too bad my bindings don't perform as well as my skis do, because one exploded when I stepped into my skis at the top of the Excalibur gondola. I had to ride back down (because mountain safety doesn't "advise" skiing to the base on Blackcomb yet) and get it fixed before finally hopping onto Excelerator with Shane 'Stainer' Carmichael and his sister Kelsey at 11am.
We cruised down to the bottom of Seventh even after hearing rumors of a 15min wait in the lift line, because we knew we'd be able to ski Spanky's, Chainsaw or the Glacier once we got to the top. A brief side-step took us to the top of the glacier, and we skied the Blow-hole to Surf's Up.
It was so good. Watch the video.
After that sweet lap we ate some food. They don't do kid's size pasta at the Rendezvous lodge. Bummer. Then we skied Chainsaw with Meatsaw (how bout that?) and Spanky's to finish off the day. Definitely a good opening day for Blackcomb.
